Curved, corner and circular LED walls: when is the shape worthwhile?

    A shaped screen is useful when its geometry serves the audience or the design. Decide who must see what before paying for a more complex screen, support system and content layout.

    Give the shape a specific job

    Choose a curved or corner LED wall when it solves a clear problem: reaching visitors on two aisles, wrapping a scenic element, creating an enclosing background or presenting different messages to different sides. If a flat wall delivers the same result, ask what the extra geometry adds to the audience experience.

    Start with a top-down plan showing visitors, the screen and the message. Then request the supplier's proposed build. A design sketch can show a smooth curve that the chosen cabinets cannot reproduce.     Match the layout to the viewing task

    A cylinder is not visible in full from one position. A long sentence running around it may be impossible to read as a single message. Give each useful viewing sector a complete idea or design motion that reveals the message at an appropriate pace.

    Separate the physical shape from the visual illusion

    An L-shaped display does not automatically create a convincing 3D illusion. A perspective effect needs content designed for the screen geometry and an intended viewing position. First decide whether the installation must look correct for one camera, one marked viewpoint or visitors moving freely through the space.

    For ordinary brand communication, two well-composed faces can be more useful than a single image stretched across the corner. Place the main logo or call to action where it can be read without having to see both faces. Review the design in perspective, not only as an unfolded rectangular file.

    Worked example: an open exhibition corner

    Assume a hypothetical stand with a 4 m front and a 2 m side facing another aisle. The organiser wants one product message visible from both directions. Compare a front-facing flat screen, an L-shaped arrangement and two separate displays using the same message and planned operating hours.

    For the L-shaped option, assign the front face a product demonstration and the side face a short introduction that invites visitors into the stand. Mark three review positions: along the main aisle, along the side aisle and inside the stand. At each position, check whether a visitor can understand a complete message without waiting for a long animation.

    Now test a panoramic alternative spanning both faces. If essential labels disappear around the corner, keep that format for decorative transitions and return to separate message areas for important information. This is an editorial decision as much as a hardware decision.

    What changes in the quotation?

    • Panels and accessories: the exact cabinet families, corner pieces, connecting parts and how their appearance is matched.

    • Structure and space: the support footprint, access openings and any effect on the usable stand area.

    • Content: additional layouts, perspective previews, animation revisions and separate approval views.

    • Installation: assembly sequence, alignment, mapping and time for a full configuration test.

    Compare the shaped proposal with a flat alternative that achieves the same communication goal. Do not compare only rental cost per square metre: equal screen area can require a different amount of work. Ask the supplier to identify which line items change and why.

    Questions before approving the design

    1. Which positions and routes define the audience's view?

    2. Has the supplier confirmed achievable geometry with the exact proposed hardware?

    3. Do the content map and perspective previews match that geometry?

    4. Are support, maintenance access and cable routes shown on the same plan?

    5. Who approves the assembled screen and the final content before the event?

    Manufacturer curving and mounting specifications apply to particular systems. ROE Visual, for example, lists separate configuration parameters for its Vanish panels. A rendering does not establish structural suitability; the technical team must confirm the actual assembly and site conditions.

    Send a plan and the intended visitor message to design and visualisation. Use the LED category and structures and truss to define the complete enquiry, including content and installation.
