First decide what should remain visible behind the screen
Mesh or transparent LED can be useful when a performance, set or architectural feature must remain visible through the display. It asks the designer to work with two layers: emitted graphics and the physical scene behind them. A solid wall gives the image its own continuous display surface. Neither approach wins without knowing what the audience should see.
The terms “mesh”, “transparent” and “see-through” do not describe one interchangeable specification. Ask for the proposed model, panel drawing and documented properties. ROE Visual's Vanish specifications list transparency alongside pixel pitch, panel resolution and other parameters. A transparency percentage alone cannot explain how your content will look in the venue.
Compare the design consequences

Do not judge it against an empty black background
A showroom clip can make a transparent display look convincing while leaving your main question unanswered: what happens when your actual background is visible? Put the intended object or a representative stand-in behind the sample. Test with front lighting, rear lighting and the planned show cues. Include quiet moments when little or no content is displayed.
Try two deliberately different compositions: a small number of bright graphic elements and a dense full-screen film. Compare what remains visible behind each. This is a proposed design test, not a prediction that one file style will always work. The useful outcome is a recorded example the organiser, lighting designer and content designer all understand.
If the purpose is to reveal a product, establish the moments when the product must be clearly visible. If the purpose is information, define what must remain readable despite the background. These requirements may favour different screen types or separate display areas.
Worked example: a product reveal
Assume a hypothetical launch in which a product stands behind a proposed transparent LED surface. The programme has three stages: an introductory animation, the reveal and a detailed explanation. The organiser initially wants the same screen to handle everything.
Prepare three content-and-lighting tests, one per stage. During the introduction, check the graphic message from the front and the sides. During the reveal, check that the product can be recognised through the real panel structure. During the explanation, test the smallest product label over the visible background.
If the explanation is weak while the reveal is successful, compare a mixed design: retain the transparent surface for the reveal and place detailed information on a separate solid display. Compare that with a solid main wall and another reveal method. Judge both against the original goals, not against which option uses the most unusual screen.
Check what the quotation actually includes
Ask whether content adaptation, lighting coordination and an assembled sample test are included. Confirm the proposed panel version and dimensions, visible framing, service access and any requirements behind the screen. A rear view that looks unfinished may matter when guests circulate around the installation.
Do not assume an open structure is automatically appropriate outdoors or that it removes the need for structural assessment. The Vanish brochure distinguishes indoor and outdoor variants. The supplier must establish environmental suitability and the supporting design for the actual model and venue.
A short acceptance checklist
Write down what the audience must see through the display and when.
Approve the exact panel type rather than a generic transparency claim.
Test representative content with the intended background and lighting.
Review the image from realistic visitor positions, including side views.
Include appearance between cues, camera footage if needed and access for service.
Compare the full project cost with a solid or mixed alternative.
