Start with what a visitor should understand
A useful museum multimedia brief begins with a question about the collection, not a list of displays. State what visitors should notice, compare or discover at each point. Then decide whether moving images, enlarged detail, sound or an interactive choice adds something that a label or object alone cannot provide.
Map the experience as a whole. A visitor may enter halfway through a film, arrive with a group, skip an activity or return to an earlier object. The important explanation should survive those normal variations. A technically impressive sequence that requires everybody to start together may need a different setting from an open gallery.
Example: three connected interpretation points
Imagine a hypothetical temporary exhibition about the making and repair of an everyday object. The museum wants a short introductory visit and an optional deeper exploration. The example route is orientation → original object and process context → optional comparison activity → final takeaway. Visitors can bypass the activity without losing the main story.

These are hypothetical functions, not recommendations to install three devices in every museum. The curator can remove a point if it repeats the same explanation. The technical designer then proposes suitable projection or displays and touch equipment for the agreed functions.
Walk the route as different visitors
Test the plan with a person who reads everything, someone who only pauses briefly and a small group whose members reach a point together. Mark where people stop and where others pass. Check whether an occupied touchscreen hides a label or forces the next visitor to stand in the main route.
In the example, the comparison activity sits beside the route rather than becoming the only passage to the exit. A visitor who skips it can still read the conclusion. A group leader can explain the original object while other visitors continue to the next point. Confirm the actual circulation layout with the museum team.
Review readability using representative content in the intended position. Test the longest translated title and a detailed image, not only the exhibition logo. Keep curatorial approval of wording separate from approval of its readable presentation; both are necessary.
Decide how explanations are heard and accessed
Sound from one point can become background noise at another. Identify where narration is essential, where captioned silent playback works and where an individual listening method should be considered. Compare the listening arrangement with group use, cleaning, assistance and the museum's operating practice.

Use this as a design reference when agreeing alternatives with the museum, rather than copying institutional measurements as local requirements.
Review light, heat, supports and servicing near collection objects with the responsible museum specialists. The AV plan should record the agreed conditions; it should not invent a universal brightness setting for every artifact.
Write an operating sheet for each point
For the hypothetical comparison touchscreen, the opening check is: start the approved version, complete both repair choices, check the result and verify the return to idle. If one choice fails, staff use the agreed unavailable state and direct visitors to the comparison panel. A technician receives the device identifier and observed failure.
Use the same operating-sheet fields for every point: content version, start procedure, sample interaction or chapter, expected picture and sound, fault response, responsible contact and shutdown procedure. Record which actions trained staff may perform and which require technical support. Agree content backup and update ownership before handover.

Give every multimedia point one interpretive purpose and identify repeated material.
Draw stopping places, bypasses, group positions and service access.
Approve actual text, languages, image detail and accessible alternatives.

Common mistakes are making every point a long film, placing key information only behind an interaction and accepting the system without museum staff trying the opening routine.
