LED screens for stages and live shows

Build the stage image around the show: scenic content, camera feeds and presentation cues need a shared technical and rehearsal plan.

Choose what the stage screen should do

A scenic background, live close-ups and speaker slides have different viewing priorities. Mark the screen positions against performers, lighting and audience sightlines. Plan the content canvas early so that designers do not have to crop important elements around stage scenery at the last minute.

    Connect the show cues

List every media source and assign responsibility for switching it. Agree how playback follows the show caller, lighting cues or timecode where required. Test actual cameras with the proposed LED configuration; the appearance on a camera feed cannot be guaranteed from refresh rate alone.

Include the physical stage in the design

Screen support, approved loads, access behind the wall and cable routes are part of the stage plan. Coordinate any haze, heat or special effects with the relevant technical teams. Do not assume that LED equipment is suitable near pyrotechnics or in every weather condition. Rehearse transitions and define a safe fallback image when a source fails.

    Brief checklist

    • Stage drawing with performers, screens and audience areas.

    • Final canvas dimensions, media formats and cue list.

    • Camera and production outputs, synchronization requirements.

    • Build schedule, technical approvals and a full rehearsal slot.

    Planning questions

Can one screen show a presentation and live cameras?

Yes, with an agreed switching or compositing workflow. Define layouts, source formats and the operator responsible for transitions.

What needs to happen before doors open?

Check the complete signal path, approved content and cues with the relevant crew. Reserve time to correct issues found during the rehearsal rather than treating it as a first playback.
